Luxury Lake Kariba safaris

Distinctive extension — houseboat cruising, Matusadona wildlife

Experience a different tempo: multi-night houseboat cruises, tiger fishing, and Matusadona wildlife along the shores of Lake Kariba.

Uncharted Waters

Explore a classic Lake Kariba safari

Lake Kariba is Africa at a different tempo. Created in the late 1950s by damming the mighty Zambezi River, it's one of the largest man-made reservoirs by volume on earth — a massive inland sea dotted with submerged petrified forest skeletons, calling fish eagles, and the Matusadona Hills rising along its southern shore. The signature Kariba experience is a multi-night houseboat cruise: drifting along the shoreline at golden hour while elephant and buffalo come down to drink, with no schedule beyond sunrise and sunset.

It's a markedly different pace from a vehicle-based safari — more relaxation, fewer "ticked boxes," and a strong sense of having found somewhere genuinely off the well-worn circuit. Matusadona National Park, accessible from the lake shore, adds a rich wildlife dimension for those who want to combine houseboat time with game drives or walking safaris. Kariba pairs well as a complementary "slow" chapter in an itinerary that also includes the more activity-packed Victoria Falls or Hwange.
